TY November Highlights

As November draws to a close, our Transition Year students can look back with pride on an exceptional month filled with learning, growth and meaningful experiences. From skills training to cultural exchanges, community outreach to international engagement, our TYs have truly embraced every opportunity that came their way.

  • Academic Resilience

The month began with the TY exam block — three full days of assessments that every student completed with determination and good humour.

  • Developing Life-Saving Skills

Before exams began, students completed a full-day First Aid Course, earning a recognised certificate valid for two years. This hands-on training equipped them with essential skills in safety, care and emergency response.

  • On the Road: Safer Driving Education

In partnership with the RSA, students took part in a Safer Driving Course, experiencing the challenges of impaired driving through “beer goggles” and even completing a supervised driving lesson — a memorable and eye-opening experience for all involved.

  • Promoting Inclusion Through Creativity

Eleven students successfully completed the Creative TY Connections programme, working on projects that promote inclusion and support individuals with disabilities. Their work helps bridge educational gaps and encourages a more inclusive society.

  • Barista Training Success

We now have 45 newly qualified baristas! After completing training with the Dublin Barista School, our students can confidently craft a perfect flat white — and many more coffee creations.

  • Welcoming the World to KH

This month, TY students hosted visiting school groups from Italy, Bulgaria, and Singapore. During the Bulgarian visit, our Mahony Room buzzed with activity as we welcomed 30 Bulgarian students, a TD, and an MEP for a lively networking session. Throughout all visits, our students served as exceptional ambassadors for KH.

  • Inspiring Guest Speakers

TY students heard from:

    • Stephen Kiernan, who encouraged them to dream boldly and pursue the extraordinary.
    • Tony O’Reilly, a gambling and addiction counsellor who shared his powerful story of struggle and recovery.

Both talks left a lasting impression and generated thoughtful discussion.

  • Model EU Council Representation

Six TY students represented KH at the Model EU Council hosted by Wesley College, acting as delegates for Cyprus and Czechia. They debated major topics such as safeguarding democracy, AI and tech regulation, and immigration.
A special congratulations to Hazel, who was officially commended for her work, and to Rob for preparing the teams so well.

  • Giving Back: TY in the Community
    • 4Q inspired the school community to assemble an incredible 68 shoeboxes for the Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal, spreading joy to children in need.
    • 4M launched their fundraising for the Irish Guide Dogs, crafting miniature Christmas hats to sell throughout December.
    • 4M are also leading a Nappy Drive for the Capuchin Day Centre. Donations are still very welcome and can be left in the TY classroom or staffroom.
  • Celebrating Autumn’s Beauty

Finally, TY students captured the stunning colours of autumn during their Secret Street Tour of Dublin. Photos from St. Stephen’s Green and our own picturesque KH campus showcased the seasonal beauty around us.

Well done to all our TY students on a month full of achievement, service and creativity. November has been an inspiring reminder of what our young people can accomplish when they engage wholeheartedly with every opportunity.
