Alumni Makes Ireland Test History

The King’s Hospital School community is delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievement of past pupil Reuben Wilson (Class of 2025), who has become Ireland’s youngest men’s Test cricketer at just 19 years of age.

Reuben was selected in Ireland’s squad for the historic Test match against New Zealand at Stormont in Belfast — the first ever men’s Test meeting between the two nations. His inclusion in the side marks an extraordinary milestone in a rapidly developing cricket career and is a proud moment for everyone connected with The King’s Hospital School.

According to reports ahead of the match, Reuben’s debut saw him make history as Ireland’s youngest men’s Test player, alongside fellow debutants Tom Mayes and Liam McCarthy. The occasion was made even more special by the presence of world-class opposition, including Kane Williamson, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra in the New Zealand side.

The fixture at Stormont has been widely described as a landmark event for Irish cricket, with The Irish Times calling it “one for the romantics” as Ireland continues to establish itself in the longest format of the game.

During his time at The King’s Hospital School, Reuben was recognised not only for his cricketing ability, but also for his dedication, humility and commitment to improvement. His progression from school cricket to the international stage is an inspiration to current students and a wonderful example of what can be achieved through hard work, perseverance and passion.

Sport has always played an important role in life at The King’s Hospital School, where students are encouraged to pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom. The school has a proud sporting tradition and continues to provide opportunities for students to develop their talents across a wide range of activities, including cricket.

Everyone at The King’s Hospital School congratulates Reuben on this outstanding achievement and wishes him every success as his international career continues to flourish. We look forward to following his journey in the years ahead.

Well done, Reuben — your KH family is immensely proud of you.
