Sporting Success This Term

It has been an exciting and action-packed term for sport at The King’s Hospital School, with playoff qualifications, league titles and representative honours across multiple codes. 💪

🏑 Hockey

As the season approaches its conclusion, several teams are preparing for crucial playoff fixtures on February 25th.

Our Senior A Girls have qualified for the Plate semi-final against Loreto Beaufort, while the Senior B Girls have secured a place in their League semi-final. The Minor A Girls face St Columba’s College in their quarter-final, and our U13 A Girls remain unbeaten in both league and cup competitions, having already claimed the X8 League title in January. 🔥

On the boys’ side, the Minor A team sit top of the Phase 2 table, and the U13 A Boys look forward to Cup action against Wesley College.

We also celebrate representative honours 👏 — Aoife Murphy competed in an international indoor tournament in South Africa, while several students remain in contention for Leinster squads, with Morgan Harris already selected for the Leinster U16 panel.

🏉 Rugby

Our Senior Boys opened the term with a strong victory over The High School Dublin in the Vinnie Murray Cup before narrowly losing to Presentation College Bray in Round 2.

Attention now turns to building for the future, with a new Head Coach set to be announced as we implement ambitious plans for next season.

Our Junior Boys prepare for a Plate fixture against St Fintan’s High School, while excitement builds for hosting the Junior Rugby Rising tournament after Easter and welcoming 13 teams for the annual Caleb Powell Mini Rugby Festival on April 19th. 🌟

Recent weather disruption has further highlighted the importance of progressing plans for a 4G rugby pitch to ensure consistent training and fixtures.

🏀 Basketball

A major highlight this season was our Junior A Girls’ dramatic 50–51 league final victory over St Gerard’s School 🏆 — celebrated with a guard of honour on their return to school.

Five of our six Form 1 and Form 2 Girls’ teams remain unbeaten heading into playoffs, with high hopes for continued success.

🏃 Athletics

Our third KH Cross Country event took place on campus in January, showcasing fantastic participation and organisation. Hazel Lacey has qualified for the Leinster XC Championships, and Abigail Farrell continues to break barriers — running 8.56 in the 60m hurdles, the fastest U20 time since Sarah Lavin 13 years ago. ⚡

🚣‍♂️ Other Highlights

  • Liam Roche won the J15 5-minute race at the National Indoor Rowing Championships 🥇

  • Our Senior A Girls reached the Area Cup semi-finals in badminton 🏸

  • Engagement continues with Swim Ireland to support the development of schools’ swimming in Leinster 🏊‍♀️

Across every sport, our students continue to demonstrate resilience, commitment, and pride in representing the school. We look forward to an exciting finish to the season! 🔥
