Maths Success this Hilary Term

KH at the IMTA Applied Maths Quiz

We are thrilled to share some fantastic news following the Regional IMTA Applied Maths Quiz, held last night at Castleknock Community College. Our two teams not only performed exceptionally well but achieved 1st and 2nd place, outshining eight other competing teams!

The 1st place team—Aryell Sheedy, Matthew Johnson and Enoch Tsang—and the 2nd place team—Roma Chekulaiev, Cora Ho and Ivan Dolzhenkov—both demonstrated incredible mathematical skill, teamwork and dedication.

Even more exciting, both teams have now qualified for the National Finals, meaning The King’s Hospital will be represented by two teams at the upcoming All-Ireland Final in Athlone on Saturday, 18th April 2026.

What makes this achievement particularly special is the collaborative spirit behind it. The teams are made up of Form 5 and Form 6 students from four different classes, highlighting the cooperation, commitment and camaraderie that extends across year groups.

Reaching the final with two teams is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the students’ enthusiasm, effort and dedication. Their success reflects the positive learning culture at The King’s Hospital and we are incredibly proud of all involved.

Congratulations to all students—good luck in the National Finals!

KH Win at IMTA Team Maths Finals

The school celebrated an excellent achievement at the IMTA Team Maths Senior Competition Regional Finals, where four KH teams represented the school with distinction. Competing against 27 teams, KH enjoyed a highly successful day, with all four teams finishing in the top six places.

In a particularly strong field, KH teams secured 1st place, joint 2nd place, 4th place and 6th place, demonstrating exceptional mathematical ability and teamwork. The competition proved especially exciting as the final result came down to a tie-break between two KH teams and Confey College. After the tie-break round, the senior KH team emerged victorious, securing first place.

Meanwhile, the second KH team, made up of three F5 students and one F6 student, delivered an outstanding performance to finish joint second overall. This impressive result highlighted the depth of mathematical talent within the school.

Thanks to their victory, the winning KH team will now go on to represent the school in the National Finals later this month.

IMTA Pi Quiz Regional Round

The King’s Hospital was proud to host one of the Regional Qualifiers for this year’s annual Pi Competition, organised by the Irish Mathematics Teachers Association (IMTA) for Third Year students. The school welcomed 22 teams from 6 different schools for what proved to be a thrilling and closely contested afternoon of mathematical excellence.

From the opening rounds, it was clear that the standard of competition was exceptionally high. Teams traded places throughout the day, with the leaderboard shifting right up to the final stages — a testament to the talent and determination on display across all participating schools.

The King’s Hospital School students rose magnificently to the occasion, with three of our teams finishing in the top four overall. The standout performance came from our all-girl team, who secured third place after a dramatic tie-break round against Castleknock College — a nerve-wracking finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

KH Results at a Glance:

  • 3rd Place — after tie-break vs Castleknock College – Emily Finn, Margarete Groepler, Cathy Wan & Sheenagh Wang
  • Joint 4th Place – Ronan Kelly, Himank Miglani, Liam Jacquinot Twomey & Matthew Cameron
  • Joint 4th Place – Liam Pansegrow O’Carroll, Shilin Hottie, Dheeraj Ramalingam & Hamid Toseef (Tied on the same score as the team above)

An incredible result that underlines just how strong our 3rd Year cohort is in mathematics this year. To have three teams finishing so close to the podium in a field of 22 is a remarkable achievement.

Congratulations to all twelve students involved, and a warm thank you to everyone who helped organise and host the event here at The King’s Hospital School. We look forward to seeing how our qualifiers progress through the competition. Well done to all!
