We’re delighted to announce an exciting new initiative from the Library this summer—a creative writing competition designed to inspire imagination, strengthen literacy skills and most importantly, have fun!
Whether you’re an experienced storyteller or just curious to try something new, this is your chance to dive into a world of creativity and bring your ideas to life.
✨ The Challenge
Students are invited to write an original story that features a character, cryptid, or creature from myths, fairy tales, or folklore.
Not sure what a cryptid is? These are creatures that have been reported or spotted but haven’t been officially proven by science—think mysterious beings like hidden lake monsters or shadowy forest dwellers. Interestingly, some creatures once thought to be cryptids—like gorillas and giant squids—were eventually proven to be real!
📝 Competition Details
- Minimum Length: 3,000 words (and you can go as long as you like!)
- Deadline: August 15, 2026 at midnight
- Submission Options:
- Email your story to library@thekingshospital.ie
- Handwritten or illustrated entries are welcome—just send a scanned copy
- Postal submissions are also accepted (though we recommend keeping a copy of your work)
