Several TY students recently completed an online TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification as part of their TY portfolio and Gaisce programme, gaining valuable communication and teaching skills along the way.
This week, two of these students had the opportunity to put their newly acquired skills into practice by assisting students preparing for the Cambridge PET B1 examination. Nathan and Marlene took on the role of mock oral examiners, helping fellow students develop their confidence and speaking ability ahead of their exams, while Alexandra also acted as the interlocutor during one of the mock oral examinations.
The initiative received extremely positive feedback from both the “examiners” and the “exam candidates”, with students benefiting greatly from the extra oral exam practice in a supportive environment.
A special thank you to Nathan and Marlene for leading the way, and to Alexandra, Haoran, Pauline and Elias for taking part. It was a wonderful example of students supporting one another and creating a genuine win-win learning experience.
We hope that all TY students who have completed their TEFL qualification will have the opportunity to gain further valuable teaching practice with volunteer students in the future.
