The King’s Hospital School is delighted to welcome Tom Dryden to the school community as our new Director of Sport.
Tom joins The King’s Hospital School with extensive experience across school sport, coaching, boarding and pastoral care, having worked in both the UK and New Zealand. He brings with him a strong belief in the role sport can play in developing confidence, character, teamwork and a sense of belonging.
For the past four years, Tom has been based at Whanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand, where he has held a number of roles, including Director of Cricket, Residential Master and, most recently, Acting Director of Sport.
During his time at Whanganui Collegiate, Tom has worked across a wide range of school sports, coaching cricket, hockey and rugby, while also leading the development and delivery of the school’s cricket academy programme. His experience has given him a broad understanding of school sport and the importance of creating opportunities for pupils at every level.
Tom is passionate about creating sporting environments where every pupil feels valued, challenged and inspired to participate, while also supporting those who aspire to perform at a higher level. He is committed to providing clear pathways for sporting development and progression, ensuring that pupils can achieve their individual potential.
Before moving to New Zealand, Tom worked in a number of schools across the UK and has a longstanding background in cricket, both as a representative pathway player and coach.
Originally from Scotland, Tom studied at the University of Leeds before continuing his studies at Cambridge. Following four years in New Zealand, he is now returning to this side of the world and is looking forward to making Ireland his new home.
Having experience within a strong boarding school community, Tom is particularly looking forward to becoming part of The King’s Hospital School community and getting to know pupils, staff and families across the school.
As he begins his new role, Tom is excited to meet our pupils and staff and contribute to the continued development of sport at The King’s Hospital School, creating opportunities for students to enjoy sport, challenge themselves and reach their potential.
