As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students with additional educational needs, the school celebrated the exceptional AEN/SNA assistance provided daily up to 3.40pm. Recognising the opportunity to extend this support into after-school sports and extracurricular activities, the school arranged a dedicated training workshop to equip staff with new strategies to enhance student engagement and success beyond the classroom.
The workshop was led by Aled Hughes, Ireland’s only motor skill development and intervention coach specialising in Dyspraxia, DCD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADD, and related learning differences. Drawing on his extensive expertise, Aled provided staff with invaluable insights into how these conditions can impact coordination, confidence, and participation during physical activity.
Through practical demonstrations, targeted interventions, and adaptable strategies, staff learned how to tailor instruction and create inclusive sporting environments where every student could thrive. The session empowered our team to support skill development, boost confidence, and foster enjoyment for all participants.
This training represented an important step in further integrating academic support with extracurricular inclusion, reinforcing the school’s dedication to student wellbeing across all aspects of the school day.
