As the term comes to an end, let’s take a look back at the achievements of our sports teams.
From hockey to rugby, basketball to rowing, and various other disciplines, our students have showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship.
Hockey Highlights
Senior Boys’ All-Ireland Qualifiers: The Senior Boys made a strong start in the All-Ireland qualifiers for the All-Ireland School tournament. Despite losses to Newtown and Banbridge Academy, they secured a victory against Sullivan Upper.
Malaga Hockey Trip: The Boys and Girls Senior Hockey Teams toured Malaga, playing against Benalmadena Hockey Club and training with local coaches.
Representative Honors: A heartfelt congratulations to the following students who achieved representative honors this term: Aoife Murphy (Leinster), Flourish Olufemi-Ojo (Leinster), Orlaith Tucker (Leinster South), Caleb Xantho (Leinster), Philip Cole (Leinster), and Scott Kenny at both Leinster and Ireland.
Rugby Updates
Senior Boys Training Camp in Kerry: The Senior Boys participated in a training camp at Kerry Sports Academy at the end of September, enhancing their skills and teamwork.
League Performances: Congratulations to the senior boys for their qualification into the rugby Leinster 1B leagues, although narrowly beaten by Templecarrig by a single score. The juniors put up an excellent fight but were narrowly beaten in their league final.
Upcoming Cup Matches: Both the Senior and Junior teams have performed exceptionally well and are eagerly anticipating their cup matches in January. The seniors will face St. Fintans on January 9th at 1.15pm in Donnybrook, while the juniors are scheduled to play against High School on January 11th in Donnybrook. Additionally, our senior second boys are on an unbeaten run of 3 matches and eagerly anticipating the Forster Cup in January.
Representative Honors: Congratulations to Luke Fogarty and Freddy Rust for their outstanding performances representing Leinster Schools and Leinster U17s, respectively.
Basketball Achievements
Qualification for Knockout Stages: U19 boys and girls, along with U16 girls, all qualified for the knockout stages in their respective competitions.
Form 1 and Form 2 Girls Competitions: Starting early in January, these competitions promise exciting basketball action.
Notable Performances: U19 and U16 Girls progressed to the semi-finals and quarter-finals, respectively, showcasing their skill on the court.
Rowing Success
Dublin Sculling Ladder: Jamie, Ronan, and Sean displayed exceptional skills in the men’s junior single scull category, securing commendable finishes among tough competition.
Lough Rynn Regatta: Despite challenging conditions, Jamie and Ronan secured impressive placements, grabbing 2nd in the J16 2x category and 3rd in the J16 1x category, reflecting their exceptional teamwork and skill.
Indoor Rowing Championships: Sean’s gold in Junior 15 – 500m and Matthew’s silver and bronze in Junior 13 categories were standout achievements, showcasing the team’s dedication and setting personal bests under Coach Will’s guidance.
Equestrian Excellence
Inter-Schools Ireland Event: Brooke and Abigail Kenny qualified for the Inter-Schools Equestrian finals. Led by Coach Michelle, the team’s remarkable talent and sportsmanship were evident at the TRI Interschools Ireland event. Despite missing the top spot, their performance instilled pride within the KH community.
Coilog TRI Interschools Ireland: Riders Sophie, Savannah, and Alice showcased determination, with Alice securing a notable 4th place in the super round.
Standout Performances: Marian, Maya, Abi, and Brooke showcased their dedication and riding skills, narrowly missing top spots but earning admiration from spectators and judges.
Swimming Achievements
Ian Daly Swim A Mile With A Smile: Students and teachers participated enthusiastically, raising funds for charitable causes.
AquaMoves Program: Engaging in the #AquaMoves pilot program empowered teenage girls in aquatics, focusing on skill development and body confidence.
Swim Gala: The Swim Gala against Mount Anville Secondary School and Terenure College showcased outstanding team spirit despite not securing the top spot.
Other Sporting Achievements
Students excelled in various sports: Reuben Wilson and James Sugrue in Cricket, Rhea Nair in U15 Cricket, Sean Lyden in Canoe Polo, Aryell Sheedy in Running/Athletics, Antonio in Triathlon, Morgan Crooks in Weightlifting and Erin Fogarty in Swimming, Thomas Murphy in Sailing, and David Coakley in Athletics (Cross Country).
These achievements stand as a testament to the dedication, skill, and sportsmanship of our students across a wide array of sports.
