Headmaster Mark Ronan proudly presents BT Young Scientist Award winner Maura Moore-McCune with her certificates and diplomas.
Assisted by teacher Ciaran O’Connor, Maura successfully investigated and developed her ultrasonic device, which will detect fast-moving objects, using a micro-bit (an affordable pocket-sized computer), coded to use an ultrasonic detector to pick up these fast-moving objects and alert the user.
Maura came up with a fantastic, innovative, futuristic idea to assist visually impaired people who may need some extra warning of fast-moving objects such as cars, bikes, etc. and hopes her concept and design will improve the safety of people with a visual impairment.
