Our Zambia Project 2024

A Journey of Generosity: The King’s Hospital School and Our Zambia Project

The King’s Hospital School has united students, staff, and the wider community through a series of remarkable events to support our Zambia project. This initiative, a cornerstone of our school’s commitment to global citizenship, has focused on raising funds for a school and hospice in Kabwe, Zambia, which we have proudly supported for nearly 25 years. Here’s a look back at the highlights of this inspiring journey:

Swimming from Europe to Asia

One of the most awe-inspiring moments of our Zambia fundraising journey was the completion of a 6.5 km swim across the Dardanelles Strait by our Chaplain, Peter Campion, and his daughter, Cressida. This symbolic swim, bridging the continents of Europe and Asia, showcased their incredible determination and courage.

The effort was not just a personal milestone but also a heartfelt contribution to our #KHZambia2025 programme. Their achievement highlights the lengths—and depths—our community is willing to go to support such a vital cause. Their journey through the challenging currents of the Dardanelles has left us all inspired and united in purpose.

The Run in Milan

Acting Headmaster Cormac Ua Bruadair took to the streets of Milan to participate in a marathon, dedicating his run to our Zambia project. His efforts not only raised significant funds but also inspired our community, demonstrating the lengths—or rather, kilometers—we’re willing to go for a cause close to our hearts.

Embrace Every Race Movement

As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, the “Embrace Every Race” event brought students together for a day of meaningful dialogue and celebration of unity. The event featured performances by our talented jazz band, powerful speakers such as Cllr. Uruemu Adejinmi and Joy-Tendai Kangere, and a Q&A session with students. Funds raised during this impactful event were channeled to support the Zambia project, intertwining our school’s values with our mission to make a global difference.

Run in the Dark

When circumstances prevented us from attending the main Run in the Dark event, we brought the race to our school. This unique adaptation allowed students and staff to run in solidarity with Mark Pollock’s vision while contributing to our Zambia fundraising efforts. The event underscored our ability to adapt and thrive as a community.

A Unified Purpose

Through these initiatives and more, we have not only raised essential funds but also cultivated a deeper sense of empathy and responsibility within our community. Each step, stroke, and event has contributed to empowering lives in Zambia, reaffirming our school’s ethos of service and leadership.

As we look back on this incredible journey, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this cause. Your efforts have made a tangible difference, and together, we continue to prove that no distance is too great when driven by purpose.

Let’s carry this momentum forward into the new year as we remain steadfast in our mission to create a brighter future for our friends in Kabwe, Zambia.
