The King’s Hospital School recently brought one of the world’s most powerful and challenging musicals to life with its production of Les Misérables — a truly memorable experience for all involved, both on and off the stage.
Reflecting on the journey, Kerrie, Director of Performing Arts, described the production as a collective achievement:
“What an incredible journey we have been on together over the last few months to bring this magnificent musical to our stage – as they say, it takes a village!”
That sense of collaboration lay at the heart of the production. Les Misérables demands exceptional musical, dramatic, and technical skill, and the school community rose to the challenge with dedication and enthusiasm. Kerrie paid special tribute to Musical Director Ciaran Kelly, noting:
“I am humbled and honoured to work with so many incredibly talented cast and crew, starting, of course with my friend and colleague, Ciaran Kelly, whose musical giftedness blows me away time and again.”
Behind the scenes, an extraordinary team worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the show. The production crew comprised over 50 people, including staff, parents, past parents, past pupils and current students. From costumes and set construction to lighting, sound and stage management, every detail was carefully crafted.
“The show is brought together by a huge amount of hard work, dedication and talent behind the scenes… every person’s role is vital to the overall success of the show.”
On stage, the cast delivered performances of remarkable maturity and emotional depth. With a wide range of vocal and dramatic ability across the school, Les Misérables provided an opportunity for students to shine both individually and as an ensemble.
“How fortunate we are in KH to have the range of amazing voices that we could cast this challenging show – from the outstanding leads to every chorus member, each young person played their part in bringing the story to the audience – I am incredibly proud of every single one of them.”
The response from audiences across the run was overwhelmingly positive, with packed houses and deeply engaged reactions night after night.
“To see the audience’s reaction over the last few nights has been quite overwhelming… these are moments that our young students will never forget, memories and friendships made that will last a lifetime.”
The production of Les Misérables stands as a testament to the creativity, commitment, and community spirit of The King’s Hospital School. It was not just a musical performance, but a shared experience that will be remembered by all who took part for many years to come.
