KH student David Calleary played traditional Irish music for President Biden!

KH Student David Calleary, was part of a group of five traditional Irish musicians selected by Comhaltas to play for President Biden during his visit to North Mayo.

The group played a few tunes and had the chance to speak with the president, his sister, and his son.

Later, the president visited the North Mayo Heritage Centre to learn more about his Blewitt family roots and was presented with a 200-year-old brick handmade by one of his direct ancestors.

He also met with local historians and authors, including Brendan Walsh, and explored the Enniscoe estate’s walled gardens and woods.

As he walked through the garden, he listened to young musicians from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann play a selection of tunes, including ones played by David Calleary on uilleann pipes, a complex, sophisticated instrument that delivers a unique form of traditional Irish music.

Congratulations David, what a great honor to be part of such a historic occasion.
