This year, five exceptional students from The King’s Hospital School have once again demonstrated their outstanding mathematical talent in the prestigious 2024 Maggie Gough Maths Competition. Competing against a staggering 15,000 entries from schools across Ireland, our students secured top spots, with all five achieving scores of 95 or higher and earning the coveted Maggie Gough Trophy.
A special congratulations goes to our brilliant finalists:
- Sam
- Orlando
- Petro
- Yichi
- William
These students have showcased their exceptional problem-solving skills, creativity, and determination in this challenging online competition, which continues to honor the legacy of Maggie Gough (Sr Mary de Lellis Gough), the first Irish woman to earn a PhD in Mathematics.
The competition saw only 53 students nationwide achieving scores of 95 or above, with just six earning the perfect score of 100 points. This highlights the incredible achievement of our finalists in standing out among the very best in the country.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated teachers, Corina Geraghty and Orla Cummins, for their unwavering guidance and support in nurturing these bright young minds. Their commitment to fostering a love for mathematics has been instrumental in our students’ success.
The Maggie Gough Competition remains a cornerstone for celebrating excellence in mathematics and inspiring young problem-solvers across Ireland. It’s a true testament to the power of perseverance, intellect, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Congratulations to our students, their families, and our entire school community for this remarkable achievement. You have made The King’s Hospital School incredibly proud!
