Harden Library ‘February Fables’

Harden Library is delighted to announce the launch of its very first spring writing competition — February Fables!

This exciting new initiative invites students to unleash their creativity and share their storytelling talents with the school community. Whether you are an experienced writer or someone who simply enjoys crafting stories in your spare time, February Fables is your opportunity to put pen to paper and bring your ideas to life.

Competition Categories

Students may enter in one of two categories:

  • Flash Fiction — A complete story in 500 words or fewer

  • Short Story — A story of up to 5,000 words

There is no set theme or prompt. Participants are encouraged to write the kind of story they themselves would love to read. From fantasy adventures and gripping horror to comedy, drama, poetry, screenplays, fanfiction, creative nonfiction or speculative fiction — all genres and styles are welcome.

Competition Guidelines

To ensure fairness and celebrate authentic student creativity, please note the following rules:

  • The use of ChatGPT or any other generative AI tools to write submissions is strictly prohibited.

  • Fanfiction entries must not feature classmates, teachers or members of the school community.

Prizes and Celebration

Yes, there will be prizes — though the exact details remain a surprise!

Winners will be announced during the first week of March as part of our celebration of World Book Day, making this a wonderful way to honour creativity and the joy of reading within our school.
