Geography is a core subject in the Junior Cycle. Forms 1-3 have 3 class periods per week. It is studied as a core subject in Transition Year with students attending 2 periods per week.

In the Senior Cycle, Geography is offered as a choice. A popular subject, it is chosen by a significant number of Leaving Certificate pupils each year. Form 5 and 6 pupils attend five class periods per week.

Teaching methods throughout the six years are varied and assist pupils to establish a solid understanding of the course material, as well as helping them to form attitudes and values in relation to the modern world. There is also a major focus on the learning of geographical skills.

The recently restructured Leaving Certificate course includes a geographical investigation involving a fieldwork excursion. This is worth 20% of their final grade at Leaving Cert and is completed by the April of 6th Year.
