inspiring the Next Generation: Dave Rudden Visits Our School
Yesterday, our school had the privilege of hosting renowned author and storyteller Dave Rudden. With a career spanning storytelling, novels, and creating content across multiple platforms, Dave brought a wealth of inspiration to our students.
From Dublin Nights to Literary Success
Dave began his journey in the arts as a storyteller at Dublin events like The Monday Echo and Milk & Cookies. These gatherings set the stage for his writing career, leading to submissions to journals and anthologies. His work found homes in publications such as Bare Hands, The Stinging Fly, and The Quotable.
In 2013, Dave won the Fantasy Book Review Short Story Prize. His stories have also been shortlisted for the Hennessy New Writing Award and the Bath Short Story Prize. Armed with a Creative Writing Master’s degree from UCD, Dave’s passion culminated in his acclaimed trilogy, Knights of the Borrowed Dark.
This fantasy series, filled with thrilling battles, dark secrets, and unforgettable characters, has been lauded for its ability to blend heart-pounding action with profound emotional depth. The trilogy has captured the imaginations of readers of all ages and cemented Dave’s place as a major voice in young adult literature.
A Multitalented Creative
Since his debut trilogy, Dave has authored Doctor Who novels, written plays and TV scripts, and even delved into music videos and RPGs. Currently serving as DCU’s Artist in Residence, Dave has visited over 900 schools and libraries worldwide, discussing writing, mental health, and monsters.
A Lasting Impact
During his visit, Dave shared insights into resilience, imagination, and self-expression. He encouraged students to embrace their inner storyteller and not fear failure, as it’s often a stepping stone to success.
