eTwinning Europe success continues at KH

KH received both National and European Quality Labels for the outstanding success of the ‘Europe Our DNA’ project through eTwinning Europe, led by Ms. Viki Malcolm’s class last semester. Throughout the entire year various year groups have been working hard at 3 eTwinning projects.

Form 2 French students took part in an eTwinning project called Be whatever you want, become whoever you are. Students worked together with their peers in Spain, Italy and Romania on a project with the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio as a central motif. The projects were based on the main themes of the novel such as friendship, happiness and kindness. This culminated in a wonderful video call with all 4 schools. Although the students taking part ranged in age from 7 – 15, they found common ground through the exploration of the project themes and also through language. This eTwinning project is part of a larger, Erasmus+ project called Dilectings which uses digital technology to support second language learning.

Two students from the TY European Studies class took part in a European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS) project called European Changemakers. KH has been an active member of EPAS since 2016 and maintained our accreditation this year for the 8th consecutive year. The European Changemakers project allowed students to work together in international teams with their peers from 14 different EU countries. The core focus of the project was youth advocacy and students worked to put together a manifesto of their beliefs based on the issues that are important to them and the future of Europe. In their final piece of work, students developed an advocacy strategy related to a cause, proposal, or idea that they had discussed with their peers in their teams. Final submissions were presented to the Director of Advocacy, Policy, and Communications at Eurochild – the largest network of organisations working with and for children in Europe.

Lastly, the TY German class took part in a linguistic and cultural eTwinning project called Unser Europa: eine Entdeckungsreise. For the project, students worked with international partners from schools in Slovakia, Czechia, Greece, and Italy, learning about each other’s countries, cultures, and traditions. The working language of the project was German, so the students also had the opportunity to improve their language skills.

Well done to all the students involved and to Ms. Viki Malcolm without whom none of these projects would have been possible.
