Rugby
In a remarkable achievement, the KH Senior Boys team won the Leinster Senior Cup for the first time in 29 years. The momentous occasion was celebrated at the annual Sports Awards ceremony on May 25th, where the team of ’94, along with their coach Peter O’Boyle, were invited as special guests. The former International player and Senior Women’s World Cup coach, Graham Shaw, served as the guest presenter for the evening. Building on this success and the increasing participation in boys’ hockey, the school aims to field a Senior Boys B team in the upcoming season.
Hockey
While the Senior A Girls’ hockey team narrowly missed out on victory, losing in the Claudia Tierney Cup final on penalty shuttles, their captain, Anna Peard, was recognized for her exceptional sportsmanship and awarded the Whiteside Trophy. Similarly, the Senior Boys’ captain, Rex Dunlop, displayed outstanding sportsmanship and was honored with the Hall-Cooper Cup.
Mick McKinnon
Mick McKinnon, the former Head of Hockey, has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his career by accepting the opportunity to work directly for Hockey Ireland as the Pathways Manager for the next year. While his departure represents a change for the school’s hockey program, it also signifies his exceptional talent and expertise being recognized on a broader scale. The entire school community wholeheartedly supports Mick in this new endeavor and eagerly anticipates the positive impact he will make in his new role.
Rugby
Turning to rugby, the Junior Boys’ team enjoyed a successful season, culminating in their victory in the Fr Godfrey Plate, a well-deserved recognition of their efforts. The Senior rugby coaching team has undergone changes, with Keith Sothern leading the team and former Italian 7s international Simone Ragusi joining as a coach for the Junior backline and the TY Development squad. Additionally, Caoimhe Morris has been appointed to lead the Form 1 coaching program.
The Senior boys’ rugby team showcased their talent at the North of England Schools 7s Tournament, reaching the semi-final of the Bowl competition. The experience provided valuable development opportunities, and plans are already underway for their participation in the tournament next year. The team has been training diligently in the refurbished gym since Easter, with confirmed training dates in August and a training weekend scheduled at the Kerry Sports Academy in September. The renewed energy and high expectations within the senior players and coaching staff indicate a promising season ahead.
Basketball
In basketball, the Girls’ program had an exceptional year, and there are plans for further growth in the coming season. The Junior Girls’ team qualified for the quarterfinals of the All-Ireland Tournament, while the Minor Girls’ team showcased their talent by reaching the All-Ireland semi-finals, falling just 8 points short of victory. Their success brings hope for further promotion of the Girls’ Basketball program.
Tennis

The Senior Boys-U18A team competed fiercely against Clonkeen, while the Senior Girls’ team showcased their talent in an exciting match against Mount Sackville during the Leinster School Girls Tennis League semi-finals.
