KH Awarded Ninth Green Flag

The King’s Hospital School proudly celebrated its 9th Green Flag from An Taisce on the theme of ‘Global Citizenship – Travel’, marking two years of commitment, creativity and climate action across the school community.

The special Green Flag Day ceremony was attended by TD Shane Moynihan and Cllr. Caroline Brady, who joined students and staff in recognising their environmental achievements.

Over the past two years, the KH Green Schools Committee has led numerous initiatives, including the installation of electric car charging points, the creation of a student set-down area to reduce idling and participation in the GLOBE Air Quality Monitoring Project. Students also promoted active travel through an Active Day challenge, walking an incredible 350km in just 10 minutes.

Other sustainability projects included upgrading to LED lighting and double-glazed windows and supporting a partner school in Zambia through donations of stationery and books.

The celebrations featured inspiring speeches, the raising of the new Green Flag, and a tea and coffee reception in the Drama Room.

Speaking at the event, TD Shane Moynihan encouraged students to keep sustainability at the heart of their actions: “Today, and from this day on, if you’re not already, think of every single act you do — is there a greener way to do this? Is there a more sustainable way to do this? And more importantly for your generation: if not, why not? How do we change it?”

This ninth Green Flag marks another proud milestone for The King’s Hospital on its journey toward a greener, more sustainable future.
