This Admission Policy complies with the requirements of the Education Act 1998, the Education (Admission to Schools) Act 2018 and the Equal Status Act 2000. It came into effect on February 1st, 2020 and after a consultation process was approved by the patron on June 8th, 2020. As required by the Education Act, an accompanying Admissions Notice will appear on the school website by September 1st of each year, until further notice. An aim of the new Admissions policy is to phase out pre-existing waiting lists in the admissions selection process.

Due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, it is unlikely we will hold an in-school Open Day this year. In 2020 we put together this Virtual Open Day & VR Tour of the school, which has lots of video clips of students and staff telling you all about our school.

Form 1 2021 – Induction Day provisional date August 25th, 2021.
Correspondence is ongoing with all accepted students for Form 1 2021 and all places are currently filled. If a vacancy occurs we will offer the place to the next applicant on the waiting list by contacting them by phone and email. The Scholarship exam will take place in September during class time.

Form 1 Boarding & Day Applicants 2022
New Form 1 applications may now only take place in the October Application Window (OAW) 1 year prior to enrolment for day places, and up to 2 years prior to enrolment for boarding places. Our OAW for Form 1 2022 will open on October 1st, 2021 and close on October 22nd, 2021. If you applied for your child prior to Feburary 1st, 2020, they remain on the waiting list and you do not need to fill out a new application. A child should have reached 12 years of age by the time they are to begin Form 1.

Forms 2-5 Applicants
We operate a waiting list system for mid-stream students. You must fill out a registration form, email a copy of the child's birth certificate, and  pay a registration fee of €75, to be placed on the waiting list. Please fill out the following registration forms that apply to your application. Please contact the Admissions Department for more information on the application procedure.

If a place becomes available, you will be contacted for an interview with the Headmaster prior to any offer of a place. 

International Student Applications
Any applicant who is resident abroad must fill out the International Student Registration Form below. Applications are considered for Forms 1, 2, 4, and 5 only. Students must have reached the following age by September 1st on the year of enrolment:

Form 1 – 12
Form 2 – 13
Form 3 – do not enrol international students
Form 4 – 15
Form 5 – 16
Form 6 – do not enrol international students

  • Deposit of €2,000 paid to school*

*The deposit is non-refundable if the student does not take up the place, but will be refunded when they have finished at the school, and there are no bills outstanding.

Guardianship/host family

If an international student does not have relatives or close friends living in Ireland who will act as a guardian or host family, then you must engage the services of a guardian.
Email to request the guardian contact list. Once you have engaged the services of a guardian, you and the guardian must sign the guardianship form and return it to the school by the end of June each year.
Students must travel to and from the airport with their guardian or with the school as part of the airport transfers scheme. Students do not have permission to travel alone


School fees are set by the Board of Governors in March each year and are then notified to all current students and accepted applicants.
The following basic fee structure is in place for the 2021/2022 academic year:

  • Day: €7,550 per annum
  • 5-Day Boarding (Domestic):  €15,645 per annum
  • 7-Day Boarding (Domestic):  €17,650 per annum
  • 7-Day Boarding (EU):  €21,180 per annum
  • 7-Day Boarding (Non-EU):  €22,063 per annum

The King’s Hospital School fee invoices are issued half yearly in July and December.  Fee invoices include the basic tuition / boarding fee.  The basic fee includes tuition and some general incidental expenses, for example, team members travelling to games within the Dublin area, etc.  For boarding students, the basic fee includes tuition, accommodation, meals, laundry, routine medical attention on site, etc. Please go to Parent Info page for more details on fees and fee supports.
