The Art of Tradition hosted 2 tradtional music workshops today for Forms 2 & 3 and 5 & 6, bringing the Junior & Senior Cycle Music Curriculum to life for the enthusiastic students.
What is The Art of Tradition?
The Art of Tradition, created by Dr Martin Tourish and made possible by the National Concert Hall, is designed to bring to life the Irish traditional music components of the Junior and Leaving Certificate Music courses. It comprises a seventy minute workshop, delivered at the school, in which topics are explained through live performance and complimented by a powerpoint presentation featuring photographs, notated examples, audio recordings and film. Each student taking part will receive a colourful twenty-page booklet of notes, which includes details of recorded examples that can be accessed on specially curated YouTube and Spotify playlists. The topics covered include:
The core team delivering the workshop is Martin Tourish, accordionist with the band Altan, and the acclaimed harpist, TV presenter and singer, Cormac de Barra (Moya Brennan, Clannad). Depending on availability, we also invite the multiinstrumentalist Éamonn Galldubh (uilleann pipes, flute, bouzouki, saxophone, voice), whose performance credits include Riverdance and Clannad, amongst others.
