We are delighted with the fantastic engagement by the whole school community in our virtual Sports, Performing Arts, and ECA programme this half-term and are encouraging our students to keep participating and signing up for new activities as we continue our online offering after the mid-term break. Despite the school closure, we have achieved quite a lot since the beginning of 2021!
SPORTS AND EXERCISE
The KH Sports and Exercise classes have been hugely popular with Circuit Training, Running, Hockey and Yoga classes all on offer each week. These online classes are not only a great way to get active but also to connect in a meaningful way with friends, teachers and colleagues who we miss meeting every day.
Many students are staff have chosen to take part in the Virtual Camino de Quarantine in aid of Focus Ireland and a big thanks to Cian O’Dowd in Form 5 for his promotional video and for setting up the fundraising page should anyone wish to donate to this cause https://bit.ly/KHFocusIrelandFundraise
Our Sports Graduate, Vicky Harris, encouraged students, staff and their families to get active for January and February with some very impressive results!
The 1km Time Trial Challenge saw students and staff both onsite and at home testing themselves for repeatedly faster times. Congratulations to our winning student Ben Foley in Form 3 who ran a superb 3:05 minutes! Well done also to Rolus Olusa was the staff winner at 3:13 minutes!
The KH Student Step Challenge brought out a new level of competitiveness across the entire student body! Students joined up to create teams with the aim of accumulating the most steps in one week. The winning team with an incredible 1,731,736 steps was “Mashalla Moment” and the KHPA have kindly provided a cash prize for each winning team member!
KH Staff have joined forces in the Zevo Health Fittest Workplace Challenge and at the time of going to print, are in the lead! The Challenge has 32 companies throughout Ireland signed up with the aim of averaging the most steps per company for 14 days.
Regular exercise as part of your daily routine is more important now than ever for physical and mental well-being. We continue to encourage everyone to try to accumulate at least 60 minutes of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity/exercise. Why not create your own challenge with your family or friends and let us know how you get on? #KHFitness
PERFORMING ARTS AND CULTURE
Our Extra-Curricular Activities Programme has continued online giving students the opportunity to take some time out after academic classes and connect with their peers. Music and Speech & Drama lessons as well as rehearsals for the Transition Year Play have continued online each afternoon since January. Students are busy preparing for their RIAM exams and we wish them the very best of luck!
Ms Kelly in The Harden Library has been continuing her Book Club and Film Club each week with a variety of themes and genres covered. Form 6 students are welcomed to a Reading Lounge on Wednesday afternoons as a way to wind down and read for pleasure. For students unsure of what book to read next, Ms Kelly has created the KH Book Clinic from 12-3pm each Friday where she can take phone calls to discuss the latest releases and give advice on suitable reading material for students.
The KH Choir are joined by West End musicians and performers for an exciting online project! Our new Head of Music, Mr O’Regan, is co-ordinating a performance of 'Story of My Life’ from Shrek the Musical and collating them into a collaborative video with a KH twist. Stay tuned for the finished product!
Photography Club with Mr McIlreavy has continued online with some stunning photographs taken by our students. We welcome the KH Community to tag The Kings Hospital in your Instagram photographs and we will showcase our favourites each week on our Social Media channels and kingshospital.ie.

Mr Hardy is arranging a virtual video recording of the KH Jazz Band playing their wonderful rendition of “Blue Christmas”. This will be a great showcase for the band and a lovely memento to have for years to come.
