Daily exercise as part of a regular routine is so important for physical and mental well-being. We therefore continue to encourage everyone to try to accumulate at least 60 minutes of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity/exercise.

The King’s Hospital School’s sports programme is one of the best in Ireland. A significant reason for this is due to the range of sports our students can sample and participate in throughout their six years here. We are really proud of this diversity as it allows our students to find at least one sport they are passionate about. To become renowned in our community as the school where every student has their sporting needs met, where their potential is maximised and where they develop into students  of character.

The Sport Programme offering includes FOCUSports – Hockey, Rugby & Basketball along with many additional activities such as Athletics, Badminton, Tennis, Cricket, Rowing, Swimming, Soccer and Yoga.

Performing Arts at The King’s Hospital School
“We believe that music and the arts are central to the emotional development and wellbeing of our young people. We lead the way by offering some of Ireland’s most outstanding music and drama facilities. And we offer an extraordinary range of creative activities so that everyone has a chance to discover the joy of performance, participation and play.”  Head of Arts & Culture – Kerrie O’Reilly

Our speech and drama department, led by Ms Kerrie O’Reilly, teaches students to express themselves with confidence through play, group work, text analysis and theatrical stagecraft. Students perform in competitions around the country and showcase their talents in plays, musicals and concerts performed in our on-campus Wilson-Wright Centre for Performing Arts. Students are encouraged to test their knowledge and acting skills in the Royal Irish Academy Speech and Drama grade examinations each year.

Many past-pupils of The King’s Hospital School have gone on to work in the film and music industry, theatre and musical theatre, daytime television and much more. They have credited our Performing Arts department with sparking their interest in the industry and giving them the encouragement to pursue a career in the field.

In addition to direct tuition, our Performing Arts department brings students together in extra-curricular activities including Artistic Performance, Dance, Choir, Orchestra and Jazz Band.

Our music department, led by Mr Colm O’Regan, offers expert tuition across eleven instruments from Classical and Jazz to Rock and Hip-Hop. Our teaching staff prepare students for the Royal Irish Academy Music grade examinations in instruments, singing, musical theatre and music theory as well as the Rock School Music Exams.

Music students perform in concerts, competitions and choral recitals throughout the year and entertain the entire King’s Hospital School community in Chapel and our 300-seat Wilson-Wright Centre for Performing Arts. We encourage students to form their own bands with their peers and to compose and record their music in our on-site recording studio.

In addtion to Speech & Drama and Music tuition, we provide a wonderful programme of Performing Arts activities for students to engage with before, during and after school. We seek to enhance the positive emotional and educational effects of taking part in artistic and cultural pursuits for all of our students by positive engagement both within the school and the wider community. Activities included in school fee:

  • Choir
  • Jazz Band
  • Dance
  • Orchestra
  • Artistic Performance
  • ‘Behind the Scenes’ for musicals, plays and concerts
