The Leaving Cert. course follows directly from Junior Cert Science, and deals with more topics in a lot more depth. The course includes 28 mandatory practical experiments which must be completed in the lab. A written paper includes questions on the experiments and examies the theory and applications of chemistry.

Why do Chemistry?

Chemistry is the study of the matter, its properties and how and why substances combine or seperate to form other substances. Chemistry is an essential element in the study of careers including: Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Technology. However, understanding basic chemistry concepts is important across most professions. Every material in existence is made up of matter. From growing food to launching a space rocket, chemistry helps us to describe and explain the wonders of our world.

If you enjoyed Junior Cert Science, you should be a good candidate for Leaving Cert Chemsitry.
