The King’s Hospital School is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading boarding schools and we are constantly upgrading our facilities to ensure a comfortable, healthy, welcoming and inclusive environment for students living away from home.
Our campus has a lively village atmosphere with plenty of social spaces where students from every house can gather together to socialise, relax, study and eat.

Options: five-day, seven-day
While many Irish and international students enjoy full-time, seven-day boarding, a five-day option is also available to students whose parents are resident in Ireland.
Five-day boarders go home for the weekend after sports on Friday and return before 8pm on Sunday.
Our school is conveniently located for many transport options including: regional buses stop at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and the Lucan Spa Hotel, while Heuston railway station is just a 15-minute bus or taxi ride away. We are also very close to the N4 and M50 motorways. We can arrange transport to the train and bus stations, for an additional cost.
Accommodation is spread across five purpose-built houses where students share comfortable, modern living spaces with house staff. Each boarding house has a staff of four, all living on campus, with one member sleeping in a dedicated house bedroom at night. All five-, four- and twin-bed rooms come with en-suite bathrooms.
A third of our staff live on campus, so we can give our five- and seven-day boarders a real sense of family.
Final-year students share twin study-bedrooms in Bluecoat House – as they become more self-disciplined and self-reliant in preparation for their move from secondary school to third-level education.
House staff are always readily available to students and their parents. See here for list of boarding house staff 2019/20.
Refurbishment programme 2018-19
All our boarding houses were renovated under our refurbishment programme 2018-19. The new accommodation focuses on privacy and comfort. Redesigned social places include comfortable, contemporary common rooms, convenient micro-kitchens and peaceful study pods.
Weekend Boarding Programme
Our seven-day boarders enjoy a vibrant and well-organised weekend programme. This includes the Saturday Morning Programme; knowledge-based classes hosted by lecturers from the gifted programme at Dublin City University and fitness classes conducted by trained sports instructors.
There are also supervised sports, social activities, including the popular Sunday baking club, and off-campus cultural and shopping trips on both Saturdays and Sundays.
While there is plenty of access to supervised study, after a busy week of academics and sport, we encourage students to relax and socialise with their fellow classmates.
Please contact our Finance Department to enquire about the possibility of a day boarding option.
Our Charter bursary offers additional support to Irish-domiciled boarding students who are in receipt of Secondary Education Committee grants, and is reviewed regularly to ensure broadest support for students who wish to attend as boarders.
