Announcement of Appointment of Director of Sport
The Board of Governors and Headmaster, Mark Ronan, of The King’s Hospital School are delighted to announce the appointment of Derek Maybury as the new Director of Sport. He has been appointed to this key role, to be part of The King’s Hospital School Leadership Team, and will lead and continue implementing the wide-ranging Sports strategy set out in the school’s long-term Strategic Plan. Derek will take up his position in November.
Derek joins us from Leinster Rugby and the IRFU where he has a proven track record in the area of rugby player and coach development, for over twenty years.
Previous to that, he worked with the RFU in Northamptonshire, the Professional Development Services for Teachers, and as a PE teacher at Primary level.
Most recently, Derek held the position of Coach Development Manager, with overall responsibility for leading the design and implementation of the province-wide strategic and operational plans for coach development.
Derek is currently studying for an MA in Educational Leadership in PE and Sport.
Speaking this week, Headmaster, Mark Ronan said ‘On behalf of the Governors and Board of Management, I am delighted to welcome Derek as our new Director of Sport. In Derek, we believe we have appointed someone with the attributes to be a leader and mentor for our coaching staff, ensuring our students are given the best possible supports at all levels and interest to get the most from our extensive Sports Programme.’
On accepting his appointment, Derek said ‘while sorry to be leaving Leinster Rugby after so many great years with the many great people I’ve had the privilege of working with and for, I am very excited to be taking on this role of Director of Sport. I welcome the opportunity and challenge of leading the whole-school sports strategy, with the students and staff on this magnificent campus, and becoming a part of the KH community.’
