'We believe that music and the arts are central to the emotional development and wellbeing of our young people. We lead the way by offering some of Ireland’s most outstanding music and drama facilities. And we offer an extraordinary range of creative activities so that everyone has a chance to discover the joy of performance, participation and play.'  Head of Arts & Culture - Kerrie O'Reilly

We offer world-class music and arts facilities:

  • Wilson-Wright Centre for Performing Arts
  • State-of-the-art recording studio
  • Spacious rehearsal rooms
  • Band and ensemble practice spaces
  • Computer music sequencing technology

Our music department is one of the best in the country. We offer our students expert tuition in 11 instruments across every genre – from classical and jazz to rock and hip-hop. We prepare them for the Royal Irish Academy music exams in instruments, singing, music theatre and music theory.

We bring young people of all ages together to play in our orchestra, jazz band and choirs and encourage them to form their own bands and to compose and record their music in our recording studio.

They take part in concerts, competitions and choral performances throughout the year along with entertaining the school community in chapel and 300-seat Wilson-Wright Centre for Performing Arts. Photos & programme from the 2019 Arts & Culture Awards evening can be found here.

Speech & Drama Department

We see performing arts as vital tools to help teenagers to overcome shyness and to build confidence and communication skills. We foster talent and self-expression and give our students safe spaces where they can explore their imaginations and develop and present their own ideas in fun, creative ways.

Our students learn to express themselves with confidence through play, group work, text analysis and theatrical stagecraft. They perform nationally in competitions and showcase their talents in our on-campus theatre by performing in plays, musicals and concerts. Student are encouraged to test their knowledge and acting skills in the RIAM Speech and Drama annual exams.
