Dear Student, Parent and Guardian
The Covid-19 Pandemic has affected every corner of society, on a global scale this year, and has created such uncertainty with schools and businesses closing, and non-essential air travel being suspended indefinitely. The King's Hospital School has been closed by government mandate since Thursday March 12th, which was a very difficult day for us; saying goodbye to our students from Ireland and abroad, not knowing when we would see them again. We knew that a shutdown was inevitable so we had been planning to take our classes online.
Academic and Extra-Curricular Classes have since been delivered by online taught engagement and through Google classroom assignments. However what sounds good in theory does not always reflect reality and we remain aware of the challenges we all face. Parents and children confined to home, working and studying side by side, is not going to be easy, with limitations on space, resources, and WiFi. Families like yourselves, on our staff, and in our parent community; continue to work in frontline or essential services, while some of you have experienced illness, bereavement and job loss.
We hope that you are all doing well, wherever you are, and know that we are thinking of you at this time. I have really enjoyed my SKYPE interviews with you since the outbreak began. It has been so enlightening to learn about your personal experiences and how you and your communities are coping with the restrictions, some in place since January. I have been so impressed by your resilience and acceptance of all that is happening, while having such a positive attitude. International students are such a vibrant and integral part of our school ethos and community and we really look forward to welcoming you soon.
Warm regards and best wishes,.
This page is specifically for our new International-based students joining us for the first time in the Academic term, August, 2020. Here we will keep you updated on Ireland's response to the Covid-19 pandemic, school reopening dates and the restructuring of our school calendar for 2020/21. We will upload any relevant school communications; book and uniform lists, changes to meeting dates, extra-curricular information and travel scheme to this page. Please email us at KHadmissions@thekingshospital.ie with any questions, feedback or suggestions.
Government Mandated closures, movement restrictions and deferral of state exams
Although the government is hopeful that schools will reopen at the end of August there is no confirmation yet on the resumption of air travel or if inbound visitors will be required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival. We are in frequent discussions with education bodies to collectively plan how we might reopen a boarding school as a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.
