The King’s Hospital School celebrates 350th anniversary

18th January 2019: The King’s Hospital School is hosting the first of a series of events to celebrate its 350th anniversary with a Service of Celebration at St Patrick’s Cathedral on Friday, January 18th at 2.30pm for current and past pupils, parents and staff.

The service will be conducted by The King’s Hospital School Chaplain Canon Peter Campion, while Glascott Symes, a former deputy headmaster at the school, will de-liver an address around the history of the school.

An archival exhibition of the key events in the school’s rich and storied history will be on display in the Cathedral – fittingly, writer Jonathan Swift, who was Dean of St Patrick’s from 1713-1745 was also a governor of the King’s Hospital School.

Recently appointed headmaster Mark Ronan will also make his inaugural speech at the event - to the school and its wider community - focusing on the future and jour-ney ahead for the institution.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony Mr Ronan said: “For 350 years, The King’s Hospi-tal School has been part of Dublin, a city which is the capital of a dynamic, outward-looking and inclusive country.

“The school has been an important part of the fabric of Irish life, with many of our students going on to play significant roles in politics, business, the arts and sport. It is crucial that our school contributes positively to the challenges that lie ahead for Ireland during this period of change.”

Chairman of the Board Kenneth Peare said: “We are a community and a family with a global reach - which includes parents, past pupils, staff and students.

“Our school has some of the most modern boarding facilities in Ireland, redesigned with the students in mind and a focus on wellbeing.

“Our academic results speak for themselves, with many of our students graduating to top universities at home and abroad.”

The King’s Hospital school chapel choir and orchestra will perform at the ceremony. Guests will include Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin Michael Jackson, and Bishop of Meath and Kildare Pat Storey, both Governors of the school.

The ceremony will be streamed live from St Patrick’s Cathedral. Click on the link to follow the service, https://www.churchservices.tv/stpatrickscathedral.
