The Transition Year programme in The King’s Hospital School is comprised of core subjects, exam subject modules and non-exam modules. The core and exam subject modules cover many areas – encompassing topics and skills which will assist Leaving Certificate studies and other areas of development indirectly.
The non-exam subject modules introduce students to areas such as information technology, health and fitness, cultural studies, outdoor education and drama. They study these modules for part of the year in rotation, thus giving students the opportunity to avail of many opportunities.
There is no State examination at the end of Transition Year. Assessment is usually carried out on an ongoing basis and can include school-based assessment of projects or portfolios, oral, aural, practical and written activities. Students sit summer exams in academic subjects.
