Harden Library Round Up

Fri 6th Apr 2018

by Librarian Joan Kelly

Poet, Colm Keegan, ran two EPIC Creative Writing Workshops with Form 5.  Photo attached. Workshops sponsored by South Dublin County Libraries.

We are very fortunate to have Dave Rudden, YA author, running Creative Writing Workshops with Form 4. More details with a student interview in next newsletter.

For World Book Day the library and English Dept ran a variety of competitions.  Despite Snow Days boarders continued with Drop Everything And Read every day. Winners were:

  • Helen Chacko,
  • Dmytro Kasienenko,
  • Vicky Gunn
  • Kooper Sweeney

Also, we ran a Fan Fiction competition.  The standard was very high and students had a lot of fun changing the endings of books or resurrecting a favourite character.  The Junior entries were judged by Gasice Library volunteers.  Senior entries were judged by a panel of staff members.  The winners were:-

  • Form 1:- Malachy McKenna & Sinead Farrell
  • Form 2:- Celia Jiminez & Carlotta Fedrizzi
  • Form 4:- Hannah Wiseman & Anna Shyliuk.
  • Form 5:- David Soyele

Prizes were partly sponsored by the KHPPU.  [Photo of some of the winners with J Rafter above].

"National Book Token" Design competition.  This is judged in the UK and winners are announced during the summer.  We have been lucky to have won twice already - no pressure!

Sharpen your Spelling Bees!  The Inter-Schools bee competition has been deferred until 11th May (due to snow days).  Our In-House heats will be held after Easter so keep an eye/ear out for announcements.
