Letter from our Chairman outlining future development.
13th August, 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The King’s Hospital has retained its position as one of Ireland’s leading schools for almost 350 years and it is important that we maintain this position into the future. I am therefore pleased to inform you that, as part of our vision for the future of the School, the Board of Governors has approved a Strategic Plan, which incorporates a significant upgrading of our facilities over the next 5 years. This will allow us to invest in the fabric of our school and to embrace changes in academic, wellbeing and extra-curricular activities.
Some of the major projects we are undertaking include:
- A new Hockey Pitch, to be completed by early October 2018.
- Upgrading our Boarding facilities and Day common room areas to a very high specification. This project will commence next month and should be completed by September 2019.
- A revised plan for the Sports Campus, which will involve upgrading our facilities for Rugby, Hockey and other sports. The School Management Team aims to present the detailed plan to the Board for approval in early 2019.
- Adapting and expanding our Teaching and Learning facilities, which will also include a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) Centre.
Clearly, all these projects will have to be timed in phases; to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, to allow us time to carry out the necessary fundraising, and to go through the various stages of the planning process.
In the case of the Boarding upgrade, in order to facilitate the changes there will be some necessary movement, as already advised, and a number of students will be housed in the Lucan Presbyterian Centre for short periods of time. However, 1st, 3rd, 6th form, and one-year-only students, will not be affected by these changes. As each group returns, they will be moving into their brand new rooms. I enclose a Brochure which illustrates the concept of the finished project, which will provide state-of-the-art living and sleeping accommodation
I believe that all of these developments will ensure that The King’s Hospital retains its place as one of Ireland’s leading schools - a place that is vibrant, active and enjoyable, and where your child will continue to flourish, by receiving a rounded and holistic education, to the highest possible standards.
