5 & 7-Day Boarding
The King’s Hospital School is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading boarding schools and facilities for those living away from home are constantly upgraded to ensure a comfortable, healthy, welcoming and inclusive environment.
Complete Boarding Refurbishment 2018/19
All of our boarding houses are being renovated beginning September 2018 with completion due in June 2019. This is being done on a phased basis, to minimise disruption for staff and students.. Morgan house was completed in November of 2018 and Ormonde House is currently being refurbished. Please click here for a brochure of what we imagine the boarding and social spaces to transform into, once the upgrading work is complete.
The supportive atmosphere that exists amongst the whole school community stems from the fact that one third of the staff actually live on the campus, some with their families, and interact with the pupils 7 days a week offering ongoing pastoral, academic and cultural support to all.
While many Irish and International students enjoy full time 7-day boarding, a 5-day boarding option is also available to students whose parents are resident in Ireland. Self-contained units of five, four and two-bedded rooms - with en-suite bathrooms throughout all age groups - provide privacy and flexibility in the boarding accommodation. 5-day boarding students can return home for the weekend after sports on Friday and must return on Sunday evening by 8.00pm. The school is conveniently located for many transport options including; regional buses stopping at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and the Lucan Spa Hotel, Heuston Station a 15 minute bus or taxi ride, proximity to N4 and M50 motorways. For an additional cost transport can be arranged to the train and bus stations.
Final year pupils share twin study-bedrooms in a separate senior building – called Bluecoat House – to encourage self-discipline and self-reliance and to further develop the academic and social skills required for their move from secondary school to third level education. Housepersons live in close proximity to each boarding house and are readily available to pupils and their parents.

Weekend Boarding Programme
Our 7-day boarders enjoy a vibrant and well-organised weekend program. This includes the Saturday Morning Programme; knowledge-based classes taught by lecturers from the gifted programme at Dublin City University and Fitness Classes taught by trained Sports Instructors.
There are also supervised sports, social activities, including the popular Sunday baking club, and off-campus cultural and shopping trips on both Saturday and Sundays.
There is plenty of supervised study, when the pupil requires it, but we believe it is vitally important, after a busy week of sports and academics, to also have some down time to relax and socialise with your fellow classmates.
Please contact our Finance Department directly to enquire about the possibility of Day Boarding for your son/daughter.
The King's Hospital Charter Bursary offers additional support to Irish-domiciled boarding pupils and their boarding siblings who are in receipt of SEC Grants and is reviewed regularly to ensure broadest support for pupils who wish to attend as boarders.
